Vibrant Colours: Bold Colour Combinations and Textured Fabrics for SS 2028
Posted on
For Spring/Summer 2028, combinations of bright, vibrant colours respond to the desire for lightness and playfulness. Fluorescent accents and unexpected colour pairings bring energy to woven and knitted fabrics, creating a direction in which colour becomes a defining element of both pattern and surface.
Multicoloured jacquards develop this approach through horizontal stripes and polka dots, combining vivid orange, pink, yellow and blue with lighter backgrounds. The interplay of contrasting colours creates a lively visual rhythm, while striped fabrics introduce a more graphic interpretation of the same theme. These patterns demonstrate how colour can transform familiar structures into expressive design elements for the season.
A nostalgic influence also emerges through floral prints inspired by the 1970s. Large-scale botanical motifs appear on linen/cotton canvas, where pink, coral, yellow, green and blue flowers stand out against natural-looking grounds. The combination of colourful prints and textured plain fabrics creates a balance between decorative expression and material interest, allowing floral patterns to sit alongside more understated surfaces.
Texture plays an equally important role in this direction. Honeycomb structures, creponne and embossed effects give plain fabrics greater depth, while ribbed knitwear introduces a sporty character. Multicoloured stripes and contrasting knitted patterns further emphasise the relationship between colour and construction. In some fabrics, bright orange and yellow stand out against grey grounds; in others, vivid pink is combined with black, white and soft neutral shades to create more graphic effects.
The colour palette extends beyond fluorescent accents to include fresh greens, turquoise, hot coral, raspberry pink, lilac and vivid yellow. These shades are balanced by beige, grey and white, which provide a quieter background for the stronger colours. This contrast allows vibrant combinations to remain the focus without overwhelming the fabric's structure or pattern.
The overall effect is energetic and playful, bringing together graphic stripes, decorative jacquards, nostalgic florals and pronounced surface textures. For Spring/Summer 2028, Vibrant Colours highlights the potential of colour research to create fabrics with a distinctive visual identity, while the interaction between yarns, structures and finishes adds depth to even the most expressive combinations.
